The Politics of Music conference

This week, musicians and scholars from all over Australia and across the world will gather at the ANU School of Music for the 35th Annual Conference on the Musicological Society of Australia on the Politics of Music on 3–5 December.

Convened by the Australian Research Council Future Fellow, Dr Aaron Corn, this meeting will feature a suite of eminent keynote speakers from the University of London, Cornell University, the University of Leeds, the University of Ljubljana, and the Australian National University, who will speak on a diverse range of topics that interrogate the dynamic political spheres that music and musicians inhabit.

Head of Music, Professor Peter Tregear, has noted that ‘this is an important meeting for music in Australia. It showcases the very best of our critical thinking on the real politick of music and the social institutions that support it, and the great capacity of Australian scholars to apply themselves to real world issues.’

The conference will be proceeded by the 11th Symposium on Indigenous Music and Dance on 1–2 December, and followed by the Living Instrument Project on 6 December.
